Welcome! My name is Brent Karding, and I’m the pastor of Faith Baptist Church.
I think a few words of explanation are in order. This is the first blog post I personally have written for this new blog, and I want to let you know what to expect in the next weeks and months, Lord willing.
A Weekly Post
First, you can expect me to post about once a week. I figured it was better to start small and hopefully grow than to try to start big and eventually shrink under the weight of too many outside responsibilities.
Meditations on Hymns
I chose the title “A Thousand Sacred Sweets” from the hymn “Come, Ye That Love the Lord” by Isaac Watts, one of the great hymns of the church. So secondly, one topic you’ll see several posts on is hymn-singing. I think that too often we drink our hymns as guzzlers instead of tasters. We don’t savour the taste and the beautiful Bible truths expressed in them; instead, we down the song quickly and without thinking about it too much. We’re headed to the sermon, after all, the most important part of the service! I want to write some meditations on some of the best hymns we sing, to help us love and enjoy them more.
I don’t have many other topics planned right now, but I’m sure they will be many and varied. As I preach through Philippians and Genesis, there are many things I would like to touch on during a sermon or would like to go deeper into during a sermon but cannot for lack of time. Some of those thoughts may well leak out of the sermon and drip onto these blog pages.
May God bless you as you read and sing!
